Categories and Fees

To join AREA, complete an application form, (online paying with credit card or by mail paying with a check).  AREA members can become Regional representatives, sit on AREA committees, focus national AREA attention on issues of concern, keep abreast of the latest developments in aquatic matters, participate in or represent AREA at  conferences and meetings, join the discussion forum AREA Talk, or hold office in the Association.  For assistance or questions contact Steve Marshall, AREA Treasurer, steve.marshall@myfwc.com, telephone 561-292-6050; or, Lindsey Chizinski, AREA Secretary, lindsey.chizinski@nebraska.gov, telephone 402-471-5591.



Regular ($25) Regular Membership:  Open to Aquatic Education and Angler Education coordinators of state, federal and local agencies, or any individual whose professional activities embrace aquatic resource education and the purposes of the Association.

Standards:

·         Full voting status
·         Discounted conference registration
·         Access to the members-only section


Retiree ($10) Retiree Membership: This category is open to individuals retired from their career or formal association with Aquatic Resources Education but who wish to participate in communication and conference activities of the AREA.

Standards:

·         Full voting status
·         Discounted conference registration
·         Access to the members-only section


Student ($10) Student Membership: This category is also open to university level students with an interest in Aquatic Resources Education who wish to participate in communication and conference activities of the AREA.

Standards:

·         Full voting status
·         Discounted conference registration
·         Access to the members-only section


Sponsor($100) Sponsor Membership: Open to organizations or firms such as tackle manufacturers, trade organizations, industry reps, outdoor publishers, etc. whom provide support to AREA and its programs and activities. Representatives of these sponsors may also be regular members of the organization with all benefits of that membership.

Standards:

·         Non-voting status
·         Discounted conference registration
·         Eligible for discounted exhibit space at the conference
·         Access to the members-only section


Member dues cover the two-year membership period of January 1 - December 31 with individual membership beginning on the date payment is made.  Paper applications are effective when payment and application are received.

AREA is organized for educational purposes. AREA members include representatives of State, Federal, industry, fisheries and educational professionals involved in aquatic resource education programs. The nationwide non-profit Association is created to foster, promote and encourage aquatic education with the following purposes: 

  • Increase ARE effectiveness  Provide expertise regarding aquatic education issues, strategies and methodologies 
  • Provide an organized forum for discussion, deliberation, and resolution 
  • Support aquatic resource management programs 
  • Develop strategic plans for the future; provide organization and direction to AREA members 
  • Serve as a liaison between agencies, industry and state aquatic resource education coordinators
  • Promote education and wise-use management and conservation of aquatic resources and those recreational sports related to them
